Solving for scale in open networks

The "Local First" ethos is about more than storing data on-device; it's about increasing user agency in all forms of computing. Atproto is for high scale open networking. This talk will cover how we solved the scale problems, and how we think its infrastructure can give a leg up to much smaller privacy-oriented computing tasks.

Paul Frazee from Bluesky

Paul Frazee is a software engineer at Bluesky. He leads the team building the Bluesky social application and is frequently working with React Native. Paul co-authored the AT Protocol.

Previously Paul was one of the early developers of Secure Scuttlebutt peer-to-peer social network, largely working in the application and DX. Paul then created the Beaker Browser, a peer-to-peer Web browser, and was heavily involved in the Dat/Hypercore protocol's development. Afterwards, Paul live-streamed the entire development of yet another distributed social network called CTZN.
